It’s time for the Spring Fling Blog & Shop Hop, hosted by Sew Much Charm! We are super excited & hope you are too!

Things have been quite hectic here in our house and filled with all kinds of chaos between family events and Spring Break.

I love getting to do blog tours and was really excited to get to sew up something just for me- Waves and Wilds HeyDay Dungarees to get me ready for the spring planting season.

I used a really fun fabric from Shear Madness Fabrics that included a rainbow grunge design.

I was very particular with fussy cutting the fabrics so the seams would not be super obvious. I took a dress making class a few years ago and learned that if you fold back your seam allowance when laying out fabrics it makes it loads easier to line up your fabrics to ensure your pattern matching lines up exactly how you want!

I really loved how this pattern shows you how to adjust for length as well as how to add depth for the crotch curve and how to add for a fuller bust.

The pattern is drafted for someone 5ft 5inches so I did have to add several inches for my height, which I added just above the waist, at the knee then at the ankle. I also added 1 inch width to the bust to accommodate my fuller plus sized bust.

They turned out super cute. And just perfect for what I intended. Then my teen saw them and wanted to try them on then kept them.

I didn’t mind terribly much sincs he looks adorable in them and quite loves them.

52 Week Sewing Challenge- Week 6: Sew Something with Hearts

So many makes and so little time. This week I went with sewing a dress for my Sweet Pea. I don’t know if there are hearts on it but the jewelry she pairs with it has hearts so we’ll go with it. She picked a pretty coral color for the underlay of tulle and went with purple tulle to compliment fabric currently on preorder until March 7th from Over the Selvage

And Here We Go Again

I took a REEEAAALLLY long break from blogging last year, I still sewed I just found sitting down to document it in word form got to be tedious for me. So I joined TikTok and have posted over there a bit more about my sewing and joined loads of swaps on Instagram.

But here we are 5 -ish weeks into 2022 and I feel mentally ready to tackle both sewing and keeping my sewing journal again.

So I joined in on the 52 Week Sewing Challenge again on Facebook and here we are. The posting suggestions are down below.

So here we go trying to continue with sewing and blogging again!

52 Week Sewing Challenge- Week 5: Sew Something Red

Sew Something Red….I used Cosmic Fabric Creations vinyl for their upcoming February round! This round fractured Sailor Moon vinyls and Famoré scissors.

I got to try out the Famoré 4 inch microtip scissors, you can check out my thoughts on them here on my TikTok.

You can also see the scissors in action on my TikTok.

I went with multiple patterns this round since both Sweet Pea and Baby Bear wanted items from the round.

For the Baby Bear, I went with our standby notebook cover from Sew Sweetness and cord tidies from the Spencer Ogg Blog.

The cute little bowler bag is courtesy of Chris W. Designs, their Bodacious Bowler bag makes a cute little handbag for the tiniest one in our troop.

52 Week Sewing Challenge: Week 3: Sew a Bathing Suit/Outerwear

Challenge rejected….in no way was I sewing a bathing suit in -20° days and for outerwear, we need stuff that is lightweight but weather resistant. For this week I decided that I would keep with my swap partner theming and sew up a Little Loot Bag for the Tiny Quilt Swap swap for Jan/Feb.

My partner was a fan of blue and the children picked out lovely constellation fabrics. I again included a scissor case and some fun treats

Snugglehood from Menta Sewing Patterns with the FREE Unicorn Add-on

I love when the air starts to change and fall starts to arrive. With it’s crisp, cool air and the beginning of wearing tall boots and chunky sweaters. It’s the time for checking all of my kids’ winter clothing and seeing what needs to be replaced.

My 7yo is what I like to call a slow grower, she wears a size 5 in most clothing and is still in toddler shoes, so we check her gear each year waiting to see if we need to replace them and for the first time in 3 years we need new hats and gloves! I was very excited when Sew PDF Patterns decided to run a sbowcase featuring a super snuggly winter hat with a unicorn add on, which suits Sweet Pea so well!

This pattern is beginner friendly and took me about an hour to complete, including stuffing and hand sewing the horn.

Winter Wear Designs: Hacking to make a 70s vintage style romper

If you follow the blog, you know that I sewed the Petite Pan and Racing Shorts in knit fabric earlier this week (you can findthat post here.) After talking to Sweet Pea she decided that she wanted the shorts tighter and the top attached to shirts for a fun swimsuit cover up or outfit for riding her bike.

Since this is an add on post hacking previous patterns (linked above) I’m just going to cover the change in construction.

I started with taking 3 inches off the length of the Petite Pan, though once made I realized I could have probably left the original length to provide lots of room for Sweet Pea’s longer torso.

After shortening it appropriately, I constructed the Petite Pan the same as the instructions then added a gathering stitch to the bottom of the hemline. Next I constructed the shorts the same as the instructions. I did an 18 month sizing as Sweet Pea specifically indicated she wanted the shorts much more fitted.

Once I sewed the top to the shorts, I added elastic to the hem allowance to create the waistline.

I think it turned out pretty cute. And it turned out just like Sweet Pea imagined it would! I would, in future makes, make a size 3 shorts just to give plenty of room for playing and growing, when using double brushed polyester. But she really loves the fit and really that’s all that is important!
